Live turbulence scores for the 25 most popular US routes, updated every few minutes from pilot reports and weather advisories. How scoring works
Rankings are based on OAG and BTS seat-capacity data for US domestic routes within the continental United States. Hawaii inter-island routes are excluded because advisory coverage differs there. Scores use each route's default cruise profile (FL350) and refresh automatically every ~5 minutes.
About these turbulence scores
Each route is scored from 1 (very rough) to 10 (smooth) using the same assessment as our route analysis tool: the flight path is divided into small stretches, each stretch is scored by the most severe advisory or pilot report covering it at cruise altitude, and the final score blends the overall average ride with the roughest sustained stretch.
Because these are the highest-traffic routes in the country, they also generate the most pilot reports — which makes their scores the best-validated ones we produce. Click any route for the full phase-by-phase breakdown.
