About the interactive weather map
The interactive weather map brings every major source of US aviation weather into one view. Toggle layers on and off to visualize pilot reports (PIREPs), SIGMETs, G-AIRMETs, Center Weather Advisories, and live weather radar across the country, then click any marker for a decoded, plain-language explanation of what it means.
Use the filter presets to focus on what matters to you — for example, turbulence-only — or build a custom view with the layer controls. For an altitude-aware perspective, the 3D map shows the same advisories at the flight levels where they actually occur.
Frequently asked questions
What do the different layers show?
PIREPs are pilot reports of conditions encountered in flight. SIGMETs and G-AIRMETs are official advisories for significant and less-severe hazards like turbulence and icing. CWAs are short-term advisories from air route traffic control centers. The radar overlay adds precipitation so you can see storms alongside the aviation advisories.
How current is the data?
The map pulls the latest observations and advisories from aviationweather.gov, the United States government source for aviation weather, and refreshes regularly. PIREPs appear within minutes of being filed by pilots.
Do I need to be a pilot to use it?
Not at all. The map is designed for nervous flyers and aviation enthusiasts as much as pilots. Click any marker for a plain-language explanation, and use the filter presets if you just want a quick read on turbulence near you.
